Aidan’s crowned Dublin Schools senior ‘A’ champions

Thu, 16th May 2019

St Aidan's CBS were crowned Dublin Schools SFC 'A' champions when defeating Maynooth Secondary School by 6-9 to 2-12 in Wednesday afternoon's decider at the National Games Development Centre, Abbotstown.

The Collins Avenue lads carried too much firepower for their opponents and first half goals from the influential duo of Sean Lowry and John Foley helped them to a 2-4 to 0-7 lead despite playing against the breeze.

A brilliant run from the pacey Lowry from inside his own half opened a route to goal for Foley to fire to the net for Aidan's first goal while Lowry himself contributed their second goal to give them a three-point interval lead.

Team captain Foley had an afternoon to remember as he finished with a personal tally of 2-7 (0-3f).

However, Aidan's had to withstand second half pressure from Maynooth, who cut the deficit to the minimum at one stage, with goalkeeper Jamie O'Brien showing outstanding reflexes to deny the Kildare lads of a goal 12 minutes into the second period.

Lowry's second half goal would fall into category of 'goal of the season' while Eoin Flaherty and Kerrie Hannon also raised green flags.
