AFL 1 Round-Up 11: A round of last nights action!

Templeogue Synge Street 1-08 St. Brigids 0-12

With both these teams in the bottom half of the league, last night’s game had heightened importance with an eye towards who may be in the relegation playoff come the end of the season. It was a very close game with the sides level on a number of occasions. St. Brigids main scoring threats on the night came from Kevin Bonner and Gavin McIntyre who both kicked some fine scores from play. TSS centre back Conor McKiernan helped drive the home side throughout but with a couple of minutes remaining Donal Timoney kicked the crucial winning score for the Blanchardstown team.

St. Oliver Plunketts E.R 0-11 St. Maurs 1-12

Maurs backed up their victory over Sylvesters with an impressive 4 point win away to Plunketts in Martin Savage Park. Maurs are edging their way away from trouble and are now on a healthy 9 points, but they might need a win or 2 to keep them out of the bottom 3. Plunketts will be frustrated with their lack of consistency recently, they'll be looking to get back on track against Ravens in under 2 weeks time.

St. Vincents 2-17 Thomas Davis 0-18

In Pairc Naomh Uinsionn last night, St Vincents got off to a dream start against Thomas Davis when inside the opening minutes Adam Baxter was fouled with Tomás Quinn scoring the resulting penalty. The home side built on this early lead as they opened up a 1-7 to 0-1 gap mid-way through the first half which included good scores from Ruairi Trainor and Cormac Diamond . However Thomas Davis began to get a grip on the game with the likes of Eoin Kirby and Shane McGrath bringing the Tallaght team back into the game. The second half was a much closer affair with Davis reducing the gap to 3 points before a second penalty of the game from Quinn gave Vincents some breathing room. Davis’ will rue missing a number of close goal opportunities but Vincents will be happy to keep their winning run going and can be thankful to the likes of Jarleth Curley, Nathan Mullins and Mark Loftus for strong second half displays.

Fingal Ravens 1-13 Parnells 0-09:

Ravens continued their impressive season back in Division 1 with their 5th win of the campaign over Parnells. Parnells faith is almost sealed and division 2 looks imminent after their 11th straight loss, 4 wins for 4 could see them into the relegation playoffs, but going by results it's not looking likely.

Raheny 1-09 St Judes 1-12

A tight encounter in St. Annes Park saw Judes come away with a hard fought 3 point win. The away side went into an early 3 point lead before Raheny levelled matters at 3 points apiece. Judes then struck for the opening goal when Niall Coakley finished smartly and with further scores from Colm Murphy and Darren Gallagher Judes looked to be giving themselves some breathing space. Raheny ensured a frantic final few minutes with a late goal to reduce the margin to 2 points but Judes held out and kicked the last score to give them an important victory.

Ballyboden S.E 1-14 Cuala 2-12:

Boden flew out of the blocks in Pairc Ui Mhurchu and could have blown Cuala away within minutes, but Cuala were saved twice by the post and a great save from keeper Darren McBrien. Cuala went in 1 up at halftime thanks to goal by Darragh Spillane who was quickest to react to a saved penalty. In the 2nd half Cuala pushed ahead with scores from Ryan Scollard, Scott O'Brien, long range frees from keeper Darren McBrien and a goal from Niall Carty. Boden made a late comeback despite having 2 players sent off and drew level with the catalysts being Declan O' Mahony and Colm Basquel, who were stand out performers on the night, but Cuala kept calm and worked an excellent winning score convert by Niall Carty.
