A Round up of the Weekends action from AFL1!
Round ups:
St. Vincents 4-16 St. Brigids 3-14
Vincents blitzed Brigids in the first half, but Brigids came out a different outfit in the 2nd half, but it was too little too for Brigids. Two goals from Ciaran Dorney (one penalty) and goals for Shane Carthy and Adam Baxter proved decisive in the end. This win for Vincents was the 2nd in 5 days after they overcame Fingal Ravens last Tuesday night. Brigids will be looking to end their 4 game losing streak with a win against Raheny back in Russell Park in their next fixture.
St. Sylvesters 1-10 Ballyboden 1-12
Ballyboden picked up a victory away in Broomfield by the narrow margin of 2 points in a close fought battle. Ballyboden will take on Oliver Plunketts Wednesday week and can secure top spot with a victory, it could be short lived if Crokes continue their winning ways the following Saturday against Fingal Ravens. Syls are away to a tough test Saturday week in Rush, facing a Maurs side who are desperate for points!
Ballymun Kickhams 0-14 Kilmacud Crokes 3-10
Pairc Ciceam played host to two of AFL1's biggest hitters and it proved that, the sides were neck and neck coming into the latter stages of the second half, but pivotal goals from Stephen Williams and Mark Coughlan were the killer blows and League leaders Crokes came out 5 point victors. Ballymun take on Parnells in a repeat of Round 1 of SFC, where Ballymun won by 20 points and Crokes face Ravens and will hope to extend their lead at the top of AFL1.
Fingal Ravens 2-9 St. Maurs 1-9
Ravens took this one by a goal and continue their impressive year in AFL1, notching up their 4th win with a game in hand! Maurs on the otherhand have seen their tables turn since last season, they were beaten finalist and are now lingering a bit too close to the bottom for their liking. Maurs have Syls in Rush and will look to turn their tides, the position they're in now will have them in a relegation play off game. Ravens have a mighty task on their hands trying to obtain any sort of points against a firing Crokes side and in their own backyard of Silver Park!
St. Oliver Plunketts ER 1-08 Cuala 3-11
Cuala have again upset the odds with their first away victory against a formidable Plunketts side. Plunketts came out on top in the first exchanges, Declan Lally, Paul Brogan and Ross McConnell marched straight through the middle with ease and set up goal and point chances galore, Cuala weathered the storm and only conceeded 3 points. At the other end Cuala worked hard for a point and earned a penalty which was neatly slotted home by Midfielder James Power and Cuala went in at the half 1 up. The second half Cuala turned it up a notch and added 2 more goals, firstly a powerful run and finish by U21 star Martin Cahalane and a 2nd penalty was tucked away by James Power. Plunketts rallied at the end with a goal and a flurry of points, but Cuala retained possession at the end and saw out a 9 point victory. Cuala now face Thomas Davis both teams in similar mid table stature and buoyed with good wins, it should make for a cracker in Hyde Park. Plunketts will be going to battle with Boden next Wednesday in Pairc Ui Murchu and will look to get back on track.
Templeogue SS 1-14 Parnells 1-11
Templeogue came out just about victorious in the bottom of the table clash. Parnells traveled to Dolphin Park and came out empty handed, this result may well have sealed their faith, but they still have 6 games to go and something needs to change rapidly. As for Templeogue they have registered their 2nd win since their 1st outing of the year against Cuala, this result might be the catalyst they needed to spur them out of the bottom 3, they are now in touching distance of Raheny and Maurs, only a point behind. Both teams are facing stern opposition Saturday week, Parnells welcome Ballymun, while Templeogue travel to Mobhi Road.
Thomas Davis 0-14 St. Judes 0-9
Thomas Davis picked up a great 5 point win at home in Kiltipper Road against St. Judes. Thomas Davis have pushed themselves into the top half of AFL1 and overtook Judes in the process. Judes will not be happy with two loses on the bounce and now face a red hot Vincents side, home advantage is always a force in League ties and Judes will be looking to use Tymon and their home support to their advantage against Vins. Thomas Davis will be full of confidence traveling to face Cuala and will be hoping to make it 3 in a row!
Raheny 2-10 Na Fianna 1-16
Na Fianna have added another blow to Raheny who are teetering too close to the edge. Na Fianna always seem to have a buffer of a few points, even with a Raheny push at the end, Na Fianna held out and won by 3, they're now sitting pretty in 3rd place, while Raheny are 3rd from both and in dire need of points. Raheny face Brigids next who are in a bad run of form, Raheny can inflicted a 5th loss in a row and can skip ahead of them in the League. Na Fianna face Templeogue who are back to winning ways after a bleak few months, but Na Fianna should be confident especially at home in Mobhi Road.
