The League was back this weekend after a Club Championship break. A beautiful Saturday evening was the perfect setting for the AFL 1 ties.
Round-Ups:
St.Maurs 3-13 (22) vs Raheny 1-5 (8): Maurs added to their solitary point in the League with an emphatic 14 point win over Raheny in Rush, Maurs will be looking to start a run now with a Senior B encounter with Parnells followed by a clash with Templeogue in the League . Raheny need to steady the ship with a win against Naomh Mearnog in the rescheduled Senior Championship 1st Round game in Parnell Park Saturday week, they face Crokes next time out in the League and they'll need some momentum going into that fixture!
Plunketts 0-14 vs Ballymun 0-14: Two of Dublin's Heavyweights fought out a stalemate in Martin Savage Park, both teams were missing pivotal Dublin Stars, but still showed there's nothing between them. Plunketts and Ballymun are lying in wait for the winners of Raheny v N.Mearnog and Vincents v N.Olafs respectively who are playing next Satuday in their rescheduled 1st Round Championship games.
Cuala 3-11 vs St Brigids 2-11: Cuala served up the upset of the weekend defeating Brigids by 3 in Hyde Park. Brigids couldn't have got off to a better start with 2 quick goals and a flurry of points, ex-Dub Kevin Bonner was at the centre of this purple patch, but after that it was Cuala's day, a goal before halftime by Martin Cahalane left only a point between them at the break. A midfielder apiece stood out, Sean Murray tacked off scores throughout for Brigids, while James Power was Cuala's driving force linking defense and attack and his coolly taken penalty past the impressive Shane Supple proved a crucial score and topped off a MOTM performance. A last gasp Brigid's comeback seemed to be on the cards, but a Brigid's sending off 10 minutes from time nipped that in the bud, it was Cuala's day in the sun. Cuala will look to continue in the same vein against Erins Isle in the B Championship, while Brigids have a tasty encounter with Judes.
Ballyboden 1-15 vs Templeogue 1-12: Ballyboden are standing alone on top of AFL 1 after defeating struggling Templeogue. Templeogue put up a spirited fight, but once again fell short. Up next for Ballyboden is Crokes in the tie of the 2nd Round of the Senior Championship, which takes placein Parnell Park on June 6th. Synger are away to Round Towers Clondalkin in the B Championship.
Slyvesters 2-18 vs Fingal Ravens 2-09: Sylvesters piled on the misery for Ravens, they lost by the minimum to Clontarf in the Championship and syls gave them a losing return to the League. Sylvesters ran out 9 point winners in the end. Ravens have a Senior B contest against Parnells to refocus the minds and hopefully get them back to winning ways, while Sylvesters still have to play their first round game with Pats Palmerstown (called off), it is rescheduled for June 5th.
Na Fianna 3-06 vs St.Judes 1-13: Na Fianna were close to making a heroic comeback, but just couldn't push on and ended up losing by the minimum. A tough tie like Saturdays will have them both in good stead for their Senior Championship games next week. Na Fianna are up against the Students who pipped Templeogue late on in their Round 1 game. Judes cruised by Mary's, but have found themselves with an almighty challenge against a tried and tested Brigids outfit.
Crokes 3-14 vs St.Vincents 3-14: A high scoring encounter in Silverpark where both sides will feel they'd done enough to get the win. Crokes dominated the first half with a powerful display which included goals from Mark Vaughan (penalty) & Eugene Keating. Ross O'Carroll was leading the defence at centre back for Crokes as they led 3-9 to 1-7 at the break. Vins were much improved after the interval with Eamon Fennell and Nathan Mullins getting on top in midfield. Tomás Quinn fired his second and third goals of the evening to put Vins in front entering the final stages but Crokes responded and an excellent point from sub Darren Magee looked to have won it for the home side but Quinn equalised with a 35mts free with the last kick of an entertaining game.
Parnells 1-03 vs Thomas Davis 2-17: Another bad day at the office for Parnells, who only registered 4 scores in their outing with Thomas Davis in Chanel. 17 points separated the sides at the final whistle. It doesn't look to be getting easier for Parnells, they face the harrowing task of Fingal Ravens in Rolestown in the Senior B Championship followed by Vincents in the League. Thomas Davis await the loser of Raheny v N.Mearnog after bowing out with a fight to Na Fianna.
