U16 Footballers Off To Winning Start In Gerry Reilly Tournament

Sun, 29th June 2014

Dublin's under-16 footballers defeated Louth 4-14 to 2-6 in their opening game of the Gerry Reilly Memorial Tournament in Parnell Park on Sunday morning.

Two goals from Eric Rowan in the opening half helped the Dubs to a 2-8 to 1-3 interval advantage with Michael Courtney (Player of Match), Cormac Howley and Jack Rowe contributed good scores.

The Dubs defence though had to absorb a good degree of pressure with Rob Shaw, James Holland and Dan O'Brien impressing in the rearguard. Second half goals from Rowan, to complete his hat-trick, and Tom Keane saw Dublin to victory.

Dublin face Westmeath next weekend in their second game of the tournament, with the midlanders buoyed by their 11-point victory over Meath in Oldcastle last Saturday night.

SCORERS

Dublin: Eric Rowan 3-1, Michael Courtney 0-7 (0-2f), Cormac Howley 0-3, Tom Keane 1-0, Jack Rowe 0-2, Dan O'Brien 0-1
