Dublin GAA Juvenile update Monday September 14th

Mon, 14th September 2020

A Rúnaí, a chara,

Fixtures

I attach U12 to U16 fixtures for week ending Sunday September 20th.

The final round of U15 Football Group Championship games took place yesterday. CCC2 will issue the draws for all Championship & Shield knockout competition including the U16 Football Semi Finals on Wednesday with U16 games proceeding on Saturday September 26th and U15 on Sunday September 27th.

Under 8 to Under 11

  • As per our Return to Play calendar issued June 25th CCC1 was due to recommence fixtures on Saturday 29th August for our Under 8 to Under 11 age grades.
  • On 21st August we informed Clubs that based on recent Covid-19 Government update and its recommendations up to September 13th, CCC1 in agreement with Bord na nÓg decided that we will not issue fixtures for this age grouping until Saturday 19th September.
  • In recent days we have reviewed the position in light of public health experts’ warnings around high infections rates in Dublin.
  • Since resumption our U12 to U16 competitions which involve single teams playing each other have proceeded well. We are on track to complete competitions with 68 finals for U14 to U16 teams in both codes starting this Saturday and going on until the end of October.
  • If CCC1 issued the proposed fixtures this Saturday we would have 175 games scheduled for U8 to U11 age groups, involving 850 teams (when you include 3 team and 2 team Go Games groupings).
  • If you average each team as having 10 players, that's about 8500 players before you factor in parents and siblings. It's a very sizeable figure of people moving about the county on a Saturday morning when we've all been advised to limit contacts.
  • On top of that, most venues will also be hosting nursery sessions at the same time.
  • CCC1 in agreement with Bord na nÓg and full support of County Management has decided that if will not issue fixtures centrally for the Under 8 to Under 11 age grades for the foreseeable future.
  • Since our initial decision on this matter there has been a substantial number of challenge game matches approved at CCC1 level since the resumption of play and we understand the hunger for games is huge, but we are not denying children the chance to play, rather limiting the large numbers that will congregate in clubs between the hours of 9.30am until 1.30pm on a Saturday morning – note most Adult Club activity is coming to an end so Sunday morning will be free for these challenges as well.
  • Another factor to consider is that the deferment will ensure the continuation of nursery sessions which are localised within their own areas. For these young children there is no other activity within a club for them - unlike U8 to U11 who can organise challenge matches with County Board approval.
