Following wins over Laois and Antrim, Dublin hurlers will be hoping to add to that momentum when they face Clare in HL Division 1B action this Saturday in Parnell Park (5.15).

The counties met in the league last year with Clare coming out on top by nine-point in Cusack Park, Ennis.

Here we look back on some recent HL encounters between the sides.

2020 HL DIVISION 1 GROUP B

CLARE 0-27 DUBLIN 1-15

A strong second-half showing saw host Clare run out nine-point victors in this HL Division 1 Group B clash at Cusack Park, Ennis in front of an attendance of 3,360.

Dublin had concluded the opening half on a high when hitting 1-3 without reply in the last five minutes of the first period.

However, Clare hit seven of the first eight scores of the second half to put themselves firmly in the driving seat.

Level, 0-11 to 1-8, at the interval a Tony Kelly free regained the lead for Clare before Paul Crummey replied for Mattie Kenny’s men.

But the next six scores were all Clare – Kelly with three, David McInerney, Shane O’Donnell and Aaron Shanagher – to open up a 0-18 to 1-9 lead.

Clare were never in real trouble again despite a brief flurry of Dublin points entering the final ten minutes.

Daire Gray, Donal Burke (free) and Ronan Hayes were all on target to reduce the arrears to 0-22 to 1-14 with five minutes of normal time remaining.

Clare though fended off any Dublin hopes with scores from Gavin Cooney, David Reidy, Tony Kelly (three frees) over the close of the contest with Donal Burke getting one back for the visitors.

The sides were level at the break after the Dubs had concluded the opening half with a scoring surge.

The Banner led by six points on two occasions in the first half and were 0-11 to 0-5 clear when David McInerney scored his second point in the 27th minute.

However, well-taken points from Paul Crummey and Donal Burke closed the gap before Eamonn Dillon struck for goal in the 33rd minute.

In the second minute of added time Donal Burke hit his sixth point of the game to bring the sides level, 0-11 to 1-8.

2017 HL DIVISION 1A RELEGATION PLAY-OFF

DUBLIN 0-19 CLARE 3-18

Dublin were caught in the blocks at the start of the second half as Clare secured their berth in the top-flight and tipped the Dubs over the edge into Division 1B in this relegation play-off in Cusack Park, Ennis.

Dublin led 0-13 to 1-8 at half-time but within four minutes of the restart the Banner County had taken control when hitting 1-4 without reply to lead 2-12 to 0-13 by the 39th minute, their goal coming from John Conlon.

The Dubs did reply with points from Eamonn Dillon and two from David Treacy but a third Clare goal from Tony Kelly ruled out any late heroics by Ger Cunningham's men.

The second half was in contrast to the first as Dublin opened well and following Aaron Shanagher's point in the first minute Dublin were on top with points from Caolan Conway, Eamonn Dillon, Niall McMorrow and David Treacy (free) to lead 0-4 to 0-1.

On 20 minutes Aaron Shanagher breached the Dublin defence to propel Clare into a 1-4 to 0-5 lead but it was the Dubs who finished the half on a high.

Two David Treacy frees were followed by a point from Donal Burke, his third of the half, and when Eamonn Dillon added to his tally Dublin were 0-12 to 1-7 up.

Tony Kelly and Caolan Conway swapped points in the final minute of the half and Dublin would have been encouraged for the second half as they led by two points.

It could have been even better for the Dubs as both Donal Burke and Eamonn Dillion had sightings of goal but couldn't make it count.
