A strong fightback by Lucan Sarsfields saw them edge out Castleknock, 1-9 to 0-10, in Wednesday night's Dublin SFC first round clash at Monastery Road, Clondalkin.
Castleknock, despite a slow start, led 0-6 to 0-2 at half-time and soon stretched that on the restart following a Des Carlos free.
However, inspired by Emmett O Conghaile Lucan gained a foothold in the game and two points from the Dublin senior panellist brought them back into contention.
The only goal of the night arrived in the 39th minute when Seán Newcombe fired to the net and ultimately it was to prove the crucial score.
Castleknock battled to the end but a Johnny McCaffrey point ensured that Lucan advanced to face neighbours St Pat's of Palmerstown in the second round on Saturday.
In the opening half Brendan Gallagher and Emmett O Conghaile grabbed early points for the eventual victors but Castleknock quickly recovered to hold the upperhand for most of the opening period with points from Tommy Corcoran (two), Ciaran Kilkenny (two) and one each from Dave McConn and Des Carlos (free).
