Flashback: Dublin v Antrim Leinster Senior Hurling Championship 2021

Tue, 7th May 2024

By Conor Martin

Dublin meet Antrim in competitive action for the second time in 2024 when the Saffrons head south to Parnell Park in the third round of the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship.

Back in 2021, Dublin got their Championship campaign up and running with a complete 3-31 to 0-22 performance against our northern counterparts.

Antrim had come into the game on a high after a win over Clare and a draw against Wexford in the league, but they would fail to fire on all cylinders in this one.

Dónal Burke would pick up eleven points from a mix of points from open play and frees as Dublin cruised home. Eoghan O'Donnell and Liam Rushe were both influential.

Danny Sutcliffe was usual also and Cian O’Sullivan really came into the game after he rattled the net in the 32nd minute before Dublin went into the break eight points to the good.

Antrim looked brighter after the restart, but the stamina and athleticism of Mattie Kenny’s men shone through. Neil McManus and Ciaran Clarke were keeping their side of the deal for the northern county.

Rian Mcbride joined in on the scoring action as Dublin stepped up a gear before never looking back.

Ronan Hayes, who finished with a tidy tally of 1-3, was the Dubs second goalscorer and we would have a third goal when Cian Boland reacted quickest after Alan Nolan’s free dropped just short and Antrim keeper Ryan Elliot was too slow to clear the danger.

Dublin would wrap up the game by picking up a couple more points, eventually winning by 18 points.

Dublin would advance to the All-Ireland series but saw their 2021 summer end at the hands of beaten All-Ireland finalists Cork.

Scorers for Dublin: Donal Burke 0-11 (0-6f), Ronan Hayes 1-3, Cian O’Sullivan 1-2, Cian Boland 1-1, Rian McBride 0-2, Eoghan O’Donnell, Conor Burke, Sean Moran, Fergal Whitely, Oisin O’Rorke, Paul Crummey 0-1 each

Scorers for Antrim: Ciaran Clarke 0-9 (0-6f, 0-1 65), Neil McManus 0-6, Keelan Molloy 0-3, Michael Bradley, Conal Cunning, Conor McCann and James McNaughton (0-1f) 0-1 each
